FAQ / More info

A few more details before you install.

Who is this build for?

Experienced 2000XL users who want additonal functionality and features not currently available in the original firmware. Those who want to test, report issues, and help shape the future of the project.

  • Testing — see how it behaves on different setups.
  • Updates — small fixes as feedback comes in.
  • Feedback — clear bug reports are most useful right now.
  • Longer term — working toward a fully independent OS.
How experimental is it?

It boots and runs on real hardware. It has not been tested across every workflow.

  • Tested — boot, basic loading, and current features.
  • Not fully tested — long sessions, unusual storage, older projects.
  • Recovery — reinstall the original firmware anytime.
  • Your call — use at your own risk, and keep backups.

Precautions

  4. Test with something unimportant first. Try a copy or a blank project.
  5. Revert if needed. Reinstall the original firmware anytime.
What is the current project status?
  • 2KXL PLUS Preview 0.1 - 28 Jul 2026. First public experimental build for wider hardware testing.
  • Next up. Stability, storage compatibility, project loading, and recovery.
  • Later. More features, plus continued work toward an independent OS.
How do I report a useful bug?

Try to reproduce it twice. Include the build number and enough detail for someone else to follow the same steps.

  • Hardware — your MPC, storage, memory, and any extras.
  • Build — the 2KXL PLUS build number from this page or the README.
  • Steps — what you did, from a clear starting point.
  • Expected — what you thought would happen.
  • Actual — what happened instead.
  • How often — always, sometimes, or once.
Why release it this early?

Because the best feedback comes from people who already know the machine. This is a work in progress and will be updated periodically.
